Vitruvius, in De Architectura, regarded the human body as an ideal model of proportion and harmony, arguing that these proportions should be applied to architecture to achieve aesthetic balance. His influence has endured, and to this day, most man-made objects are designed based on human body proportions.
However, the reason human proportions are perceived as harmonious and ideal lies in the fact that humans are a part of nature. All living beings, including humans, are born from nature and follow the principles of nature, embodying the golden ratio (1:1.618) in their proportions. This book begins with this idea: if a 6 ft tall human were to have the body proportions of other creatures—such as an ant, a giraffe, a squid, or an owl—what would the objects around us look like?
